Structured learning for software developers
In case you missed it, the video of the first webinar in the PureType SHARE series - Structured learning for software developers - is now available. (also available on LinkedIn)
Continuous software developer education requires a culture of sharing knowledge, and there are a great many ways in which to do that.
Here’s an outline of what was covered:
SPOC analysis - how to analyze systems through a framework that goes through Symptoms, Problems, Options and Choice. It helps you move from passively observing symptoms to understanding underlying problems, exploring options and making informed choices
Structured learning options - we looked at four representative options for structured learning in teams - tutor groups, lunch and learns, lecture courses and tech guilds
Principles of effective knowledge sharing - namely:
Anyone can help others learn, regardless of their position in the organization.
Learning together as a team is a system that can be improved over time.
Effective solutions should involve the right people, present information in an understandable way, provide enough context for independent learning, and allow for clarification through questions and discussions.
The choice of knowledge sharing method should consider factors such as team size, effort required, and the likelihood of the knowledge changing over time.
